TKGA's Master Knitting Program

Image
Hiya!  In "About Me" you would have read my journey with knitting.  What you might not know is that in 1995, I began exploring the idea of opening a yarn store.  As a result, I felt that I needed to gain more knitting experience.  Therefore, I joined the Knitting Guild of America and starting meeting regularly at a local chapter  in Haverford.   In February 1995, I successfully completed Level I of the Master Knitting Program. After starting and stopping, redoing swatches and sock, in June 2014, I completed Level II.   I was going to stop there.  I was not going on to Level III.  The Knitting  Guild of America was holding a conference in San Diego on July 22-25, 2015.  My husband and I decided to make a short vacation out of it and I would attend Master's Day.  After all, I wanted to get an understanding as to what the certification was being used for from those who have graduated. Upon arriving home, I ordered Level...

Elena's Fourth Sweater

Image
Hiya!! Well, I am on a roll.  Here is the 4th sweater for my granddaughter.  I found this pattern instead - it was "free"  on Raverly. I purchased this fingering yarn, The Yarns of Rhichard Devrieze - Thede,  sometime ago intending to knit a pullover.  As you can see, the striping looks great.  The pattern produces a twisted stitch which will provide considerable stretchiness to the sweater. The wrong side of the fabric looks great as well.  See  below. To make the side enclosure stand out, I found these wonderful button at my local yarn store, Four Purls , in White Haven, Florida.  I could not make up my mind as to which buttons so I am pairing the two sets The end project looks great  I just added two buttons.  Still have the hat to finished.

Elena's Third Sweater

Hiya, As I mentioned in my previous blog, I am knitting for Elena.  Request for sweaters was made by my daughter; therefore, I went on a hunt for simple patterns. I found Baby Picchu, free pattern on Ravelry ( https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/baby-picchu ).  Cute isn't it. I decided to use yarn from my stash to create something new and exciting. I have a complete skein of Madelin Tash - Demin which is lovely to work with.  I decided to pair this up with left over skeins of white, green, black and fuchsia. I started with the sleeves.  I added color to the sleeves in simple stripes.  I varied the width of the strips for effect. I then moved on to the back and two fronts.  The pattern called for knitting each of these sections separately.  Each section begins with the Tosh and proceeds with white.  Again, I deviate from  the pattern:  I knitted the bands for the back and fronts after joining at the shoulder.   I wa...

Elena's Second Sweater

Image
Hiya!! Well, with my little granddaughter growing so quickly.  My daughter has requested more sweaters.  Therefore, I better get a moving. I started another sweater set from Karen Ashton-Mills ( www.angelknits.co.uk ) called Blessings. This pattern is just as unique, just like others from her catalogue.  There are multiple designs for the bottom half of the coat. I have selected to knit the "third" version.  This pattern starts with knitting the sleeves which are quick and easy.  These I got done in a few hours. Well, I have almost completed this new sweater for Elena.  I just have to complete sewing it together and add the front bands.  This has taken my approximately 15 hours to knit.  I am excited that I am able to get a project completed so fast.. I just need to sew the buttons, block it a little and package it up and sending it along with the another that I have started.😀.

Elena's First Sweater

Hi Knitters,   There is something special about knitting for family.  My daughter recently, 9 weeks ago, gave birth to a beautiful girl.  I know that all "Mamma" believe that their grandchildren are the most beautiful, brightest and special.   I decided that I would present the newest member of our family with a knitted sweater and blanket.  I found some wonderful patterns by Karen Aston-Mills, "I believe in angels" collection, www.angelknits.com.uk .    I used a pattern called " Faith and Hope " and yarn called "Twinkle", by Mary Maxim which I had in my stash for some time. Now that she is 9 weeks only, she is able to wear it.  She actually had it on for Christmas; but, the hat did not fit.  I would recommend that a ribbon  be attached for under the chin so that the hat fits comfortable. Stevie Wonder puts is.... Isn't she lovely Isn't she wonderful Isn't she precious   Isn't she pretty Truly ...

Knitters Day Out

Image
Hi Knitters. Just finished a scarf called I Monti Pallidi (Pale Mountains) by Valentina Cosciani (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/i-monti-pallidi) I found this pattern and yarn at Knitter's Day Out Market from Hidden Rivers Yarns out of Philadelphia, PA.  Knitters' Day Out is a day and a half of classes, shopping, and hanging-out with devoted individuals who knit.  It has been held annually since 1986 in Summerdale, PA.  This is the first time that I attending this event.  I selected a class called " Designing and Charting Your Own Cables" with i nternationally famous knitter and crocheter, Lily Chin. I have done many cables before and want to get into more complex cable patterns so that I can design my own cables. I  learned how cable patterns are actually formed and their basic traits, characteristics and manipulations. As a result, I am able to better understanding and follow the directions a whole lot better...

Semester is Over

Hi Knitters... N ow that this school semester is over, I can get back to knitting.  I have worked the Aranami Shawl by Olga Buraya-Kefelian in Madelin Tosh's black and teal colors.  I loved that shawl so much that I decided to make another; however, this time with the shells being a different color. I am currently working my way through Level 3 of TKGA's Master Hand Knitting Program.  I began the program in 1995 when I passed Level I.  I didn't complete Level II until June 2014.  I had intended to stop there.  However, I attended the 2015 TKGA's Conference in San Diego and got talked into finishing.  So in 2016, I ordered the package and here I am. I have just completed most of the swatches (one of them is seen below); but, I still have a number of items left to accomplished. As you can see from my BIO have been knitting for some years.  This adventure has expanded my technical skills and interests in ways beyond what ...
